How to Find an Accountant to Do Your Tax Return

First and foremost, it’s important to find an accountant that is qualified!

All qualified accountants have to do a certain amount of continual professional development each year to keep up to date. If you choose an accountant that is not up to date with tax legislation, they could complete your tax return incorrectly, and so you could open yourself up to an investigation by HMRC and face fines and penalties.

Conversely, you might even end up paying too much tax if your tax return is completed incorrectly too! Ideally, appoint an accountant who is ACCA or ACA qualified.

Watch out also for any accountant who is not very responsive when you first make contact, if they are not responsive when you are first enquiring, they may be equally as unresponsive when you need to get your tax return submitted too!
